Turner Cup Skippers Protocol

Starting

Ensure the time on your watch is synchronized with that of the Starter's Chronometer.

Stay clear of the start line until your start time to enable other fleets to have a clear start at their time and to allow the Judges to have a clear and unambiguous view of each start.

Two short blasts on the horn will mark one minute to go to the start.

One long blast on the horn will mark the start.

The start time recorded for a boat will be its Set Start Time. If it is late crossing the line, it will still be given the Set Start Time.

Any boat crossing the line early will be given a minimum 30 second penalty, or such penalty as decided by the Judges.

Any such penalty will be added to the boat's actual course time.

On the Course

Basic sailing rules apply, including:

Do not be overly aggressive when faced with another competitor. This is an event, not a contact sport.

Finishing

Do not immediately sail back across the line after finishing.

Do not foul the course of boats yet to finish.

Sail to a position clear of the line, then decide your clear route to the dock.

Secure your boat properly at the dock so that following boats can also properly secure theirs.

You may then visit the Event Refreshments Cooler, congratulate the Thirst Prize winner, and discuss the event with others while the Committee and Judges tabulate the Event Results.

The first skipper to complete the event and cross the finish line, after allowing for any penalties, wins the Thirst Prize, and must promptly dock and secure their boat and make themselves, or one of their crew, available at the Thirst Prize Cooler to hand out refreshments to the following boats.

A boat's Actual Event Time will be its Actual Finish Time minus its Set Start Time, plus any start or other penalties that the Event Judges may assess.

Results

No rated results will be released prior to the skipper of the last boat to finish arriving at the results release meeting.
